Cuba fell to communists in 1959 and has stayed in 1959 ever since (if one judges by its automobiles). Unless you're Michael Moore in need of some cheap liposuction, Cuba has little to recommend it, but it's still there if you want to visit.

Have a friend who has visited many times (part of "humanitarian mission" playing softball -- old guys playing against the former Cuban allstars) who relates that it is as bad as anyone claims. He brings suitcases of gifts, clothes, meat(!), and dollars. Leaves everything including the suitcases.
Because it is a paradise there.
